Magnificent, mournful guitars seize your attention from the very first few bars. Sumptuous arpeggios provide the backdrop to lyrics that tell of the journey home to witness the passing of a loved one. It is a song that acknowledges grief but also offers healing—a song to mend wounds.
‘Misery’ carries an undercurrent of menace, promising a reckoning as it rails against the harshness of this world. Sorrow and anger exist side by side, giving the song both emotional depth and quiet strength.
The accompanying video is rich with allusions to journeys, from the frozen river to the lonely train platform. Each image reinforces the themes of loss, remembrance, and the road we all must travel. Watching it during a summer heatwave, the stark winter landscape feels almost refreshing, its bleak beauty providing a perfect setting for a song that is both haunting and disturbing.
